Mooney Landing Techniques

Aug. 18, 2000: What's your landing configuration (flaps, trim, power)?

* Andy C : MooneyPoll from 207.55.126.128
70 knots on final. Full flaps, per POH. The Mooney wants aft trim as flaps come in; I keep rolling it aft into the flare. Little or no power, then I fly it down the runway and let it settle in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Warren Hecksel : MooneyPoll from 24.4.252.137
flaps full power off Gear down trim as necessary
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Bill Barton : MooneyPoll from 24.4.254.71
M20M I use full flaps, full up trim, power into the flair, and sometimes keep the airbrakes through the landing rollout. In strong crosswinds I use takeoff flaps and airbrakes. I also try to get the gear out before touchdown.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Barry Vaughan : MooneyPoll from 209.233.220.198
half flaps trim to 75 kts, not full aft power 15" to the numbers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Hal Smith : MooneyPoll from 209.162.37.201
Gear down
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Marty Petri : MooneyPoll from 24.165.80.22
full flaps, trim to 80mph, power to control ROD
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Rif : MooneyPoll from 24.147.247.25
On down wind MP=16" TO flaps gear down abeam numbers On final keep trimming it nose up and chop power when I know I have it made.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* John Bartholomew : MooneyPoll from 172.131.222.88
I do it just like Trey said in the latest MAPA...stabilized approach, 15", 2600, full flaps, trim for 80 Kts., 70 Kts. over the numbers, throttle to idle, flare just off the runway and keep trimming. Land on the mains, nose wheel off. At least that's what I'm trying to do.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Lee Martin : MooneyPoll from 207.35.191.45
I Always use FULL FLAPS,except on rare occasions where there is a significant cross-wind. On established final, I trim with a little back pressure to so I have a little less pulling to do in the flare. I use 80 MPH on final,then 75-80 MPH on short final.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* H.Dog Gordon : MooneyPoll from 209.245.166.246
Flaps down. Gear up. Power full until threshold then full off (Nothing halfway, that's what I say.) Trim full down then full up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For an M20C: Non-instrument approach: - Flaps: one or two pumps per rwy position (i.e., downwind, base, final) until full flaps. - Trim for 80 mph. - Power: Approx. 14 in Hg. Instrument approach: - Flaps: none until rwy in sight - Trim for 115 mph. - Power: 18 in Hg. - At FAF: Gear down/prop full - Rwy in sight: power back/trim to 80mph/full flaps
